In Number One, Emmanuelle Devos plays Emmanuelle Blachey, a powerful woman in the corporate world who is recruited by a French matriarch to run for CEO of a state-owned energy company. Blachey, and the posse of women supporting her, are at the top of their fields, but that doesn't matter to the men around them--be it fathers, husbands, or colleagues--who treat women as alternately something to look at, something to conquer, or something to use. A film with enough deceit and intrigue to qualify as a light thriller, its essentially feminist message is not lost in the drama--it's only made stronger.

The final screening of Number One happens tonight as part of the 44th click here annual Seattle International Film Festival, which is happening through June 10. More recommended SIFF films here; and all SIFF films here.
